June 24, 2016 - Be Well Philly - Do This: Epic Spin/Run/Boot Camp/Brunch Workout (With Mimosas!)

If you’re feeling a bit blasé about your usual Saturday-morning workout and are looking for a workout that will kick your butt this weekend, you’re in luck: Tomorrow, June 25th, Body Cycle Studio and Fit Academy are teaming up for an epic midday sweat-and-brunch session, including a Spin class, a short run and a boot camp class. Followed by mimosas, of course.

Here’s the deal: Participants will meet at Body Cycle for a 30-minute cycling class, which will kick off around 12:30 p.m. Afterward, the whole group will run to the Art Museum steps for a sure-to-be-killer 30-minute boot camp with Fit Academy. After you get your sweat on, everyone will head to brunch at Urban Saloon in Fairmount.

The whole shebang costs $25 and that gets you the workout, a Bloody Mary or mimosa AND a sweet t-shirt. Pretty good deal, eh? So go ahead, call up your best friends, rearrange your usual weekend brunch plans and opt for a plate of pancakes well-earned by a grueling workout. You can sign up here.

Everyone who joins in will snag a virtual swag bag (hey, discounts!), and after the workout, attendees will reward themselves with happy hour specials at Urban Saloon. You can reserve your spot in the free boot camp here.

MARCH 15, 2016 - Be Well Philly - Fit Academy Opening Brick-and-Mortar Fitness Studio in Brewerytown

"Up until now, Fit Academy, helmed by trainer Osayi Osunde, has been known for its high-energy, very sweaty outdoor boot camps at the Art Museum Steps. But soon, that will change: This summer, Osunde will be opening a brick-and-mortar fitness studio in Brewerytown’s new mixed-use building, the Fairmount @ Brewerytown.

Osunde tells us the space, located at 3050 West Master Street, will feature locker rooms, a group-training area and a personal-training area.

He plans to continue his much-loved outdoor boot camps — as he says, “It’s so unique to Philadelphia to be able to use the environment in the way we do” to work out — but he’ll be adding a slew of other group-training classes to his gym schedule, as well as a handful of trainers. When it comes to classes, ideas include a more user-friendly CrossFit-style class (think: fewer barbells, more kettlebells), a yoga-for-athletes class of some sort, classes that zone in on specific problem areas (Hi, butt and belly), Tabata group classes and more..."

The fun begins at Body Cycle Studio (19th and Chestnut) with a super-high-intensity 15 minute Spin session. Then, you’ll run as a group to the Art Museum steps, where Fit Academy trainers will be waiting for you. After the workout, you’re invited to head over to Urban Saloon in Fairmount for post-workout drinks and revelry; food and drink specials will be available...."

AUGUST 6, 2015- Philly.com -  Fit Academy boot camp turns your workout up a notch

"Osayi Osunde, founder of Fit Academy and co-founder of Optimum Fit USA, believes that having fun and networking should be a big part of your fitness experience and that is why he makes sure to incorporate them into his Fit Academy outdoor boot camps held in the Art Museum area throughout the week. Sessions are either led by Osunde or by a few other Fit Academy coaches.  “Building community is key,” Osunde told Philly.com. “I refer to my group as Fit Fam – we all come from different backgrounds but fitness is what gels us together. It is a great way to meet new people and explore Philly.”

Each hour-long session, usually held in the early morning or evening, is a balance of sports-driven exercise, full body plyometrics, cardio and high intensity interval strength training. Osunde pulls a lot of methodology from sports, strength training and yoga. “It is a high intensity, full body workout and every single one is different,” he explained....."
